Stephanie Harvey Comprehension Toolkit
Eric Jensen Teaching with the Brain in Mind
Harvey Daniels Inquiry Circles
One thing I walked away with from Eric Jensen is that 90% of the population as some sort of "special" brain, from gifted, ADHD, learning disabilities, etc and only 10% of the population has what we consider a normal brain. WOW! Eye opening. I will definately be using this information! Also that DNA is not your DESTINY. DNA only accounts for 30-40% of what you can accomplish. School plays a major factor in your intelligence!
Stephanie and Harvy spoke on comprehension and collaboration. As teachers, we need to model our own curiosity/inquiry. The most important questions are not the ones the students answer after reading a passage, but the questions a student ASKS after reading a text. EYE OPENER!!! Students must be aware of their thinking, think strategically, and recognize the power of their thinking. We also have to teach kids how to interact with each other to when working collaboratively.
This was absolutely a great day! Except for lunch...the Black Eyed Pea was not ready for a crowd. We had to get our lunch to go and eat in our next session. After sitting at the table for an hour. Oh well, what can you do?
